At Lindegard Therapy, we focus on early intervention for children ages 2-6 who have been recently diagnosed with autism.
Lindegard Therapy provides Applied Behavior Analysis in Hillsboro, Oregon and its surrounding areas. At Lindegard Therapy, we know that all children can learn but that some children learn differently than others. For this reason, we offer treatment that is tailored to the individual and built on a solid family-centered platform. Our interventions focus on improving your child’s social, communicative and daily living abilities by creating a learning-rich environment designed to target these skill areas, while also maintaining an open and collaborative relationship with you as the family.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) aims to identify environmental variables that shape and influence behavior. Because Autism affects language development, maladaptive behaviors such as frequent tantrums, aggression and noncompliance can arise. Through analyzing and understanding these behaviors, ABA provides tools to help families address behavioral difficulties while helping children learn functional language, communication and social skills.
Because there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, each treatment plan may look very different – We customize our interventions to best fit your child and family’s needs.
This is the information gathering phase. Before beginning any type of intervention or teaching program, we gather as much information as possible. Assessments include parent interview, observation and testing. Because maladaptive behaviors are often a main concern for families, we do offer support during this phase and if necessary, intervention can take place early on.
Building rapport
with your child is an important and crucial part of this phase. Ensuring that your child sees us as motivating and fun is key to successful intervention. We take time to build strong and positive relationships with you and your child to ensure success - time and effort put in at the beginning will pay off down the road...
What are we working on? Once the assessment is completed, therapists begin to create programs designed to target specific skill areas. These skill areas typically fall into 3 domains: communication, social skills, and daily living/self-help or adaptive skills.
Hand-in-hand with these target skills, we also develop a comprehensive behavior intervention plan to address any maladaptive behaviors that are occurring. The idea being that while we are addressing behavioral concerns, we are also teaching replacement behaviors and skills so that the child learns to engage in appropriate behaviors to get his or her needs met and no longer engages in the maladaptive behaviors.
A crucial part of a successful therapeutic program, is parent participation. Ultimately, we want each child to be able to function independent of their therapist, and this means when we're not there, parents need to know how to jump in. For this reason, parent training and participation is a central part of therapy every step of the way.
On-going data collection allows us to monitor and evaluate your child's treatment plan and progress on an ongoing basis. Data informs all of our program decisions and modifications. This also allows us to continue to work on socially significant skills in an effective manner, and ensures that we are never asking the question: "What should we work on next?"
We have been so privileged for our little one to work with both Julia and David. They have gone so far out of their way to develop an individual treatment plan that is helping our kiddo to thrive in ways we could not have imagined. Julia is a warm, caring, creative therapist. Our family has learned so much from her and we respect her immensely. David is kind and gentle and he occasionally brings his guitar to incorporate music into his sessions. Julia and David make a truly wonderful team and I cannot recommend them highly enough. We are so lucky they have come into our lives.
Our family has been client of David and Julia for just about two years. We have valued the relationship David has built with our son, Desmond. David has supported Desmond through many stages of development with a conscientious and thoughtful approach to Desmond's needs; both as an child with Autism and also as just any other child. Julia and David have been integral in our adventure as a family, highly recommend their services.
We will be forever grateful to have had the opportunity to have Julia & David work with our son. Julia worked with our son one on one everyday during the week for about 8 months or so. Julia always came prepared with a specific program to meet each individual child's needs as well as what the parents goals/behavior concerns we felt could use Julia's guidance. We were always communicating back and forth with Julia on a daily basis. She also did an amazing job to make sure we were all on the same page by writing out very detailed progress reports for our son every few months. Julia was so great at making herself available to us parents in case we ran into tantrums/behaviors we at the time were clueless what to do to ease the situation and we needed her guidance all the time, and she was always there to help.
